Meghan Bowers, Executive Director
Meghan joined the Humane Society of Warren County in December of 2018. She most recently worked as an Animal Care Technician in Catlett, Virginia and served as the Shelter Manager for Friends of Homeless Animals in Aldie, Virginia before that. Meghan has acquired a skillset from her experience in these positions as well as management positions in other fields that will compliment the existing Leadership Team well. Meghan values hard work and honesty and intends to introduce new, exciting events and expand our volunteer base.
Kayla Wines, Shelter Manager
Kayla joined the Humane Society of Warren County as an Animal Caregiver in 2013 and received her Veterinary Assistant Certification that same year. Kayla has been on our leadership team since becoming our Canine Team Leader in 2017 and now serves as our Shelter Manager. She has over 10 years of management experience and a vast knowledge of Shelter Operations and Customer Service. Her strengths and capabilities have proved indispensable for our organization.
Michael Kerns, Feline Team Leader
Michael has been with the Humane Society of Warren County since 2001. Michael was hired soon after the shelter opened at the new location on Progress Drive. He was hired as an Animal Caregiver and was promoted to Feline Team Leader in 2011. In 2013, Michael took on leadership and coordination of our permanent cat kennels and adoption program at Petco of Front Royal. In 2016, to save more community cats, Trap Neuter Return was added to the feline program. Michael has a gift for data and keeps up with statistics and reporting that is required of all Virginia animal shelters. Michael is always reminding us of our goals and keeps us on task.
Katie Kurzenknabe, Canine Team Leader
Katie joined the Humane Society of Warren County in the Spring of 2017 as an Animal Caregiver. Katie is eager to learn new skills and ensures our canine population receives adequate kennel enrichment. The Humane Society of Warren County hosted a Dogs Playing for Life Seminar in the summer of 2018 that Katie attended and she is adamant about dog playgroups. Katie was promoted to Canine Team Leader in September of 2018 with the intention of maintaining our live release rate and placing harder to adopt dogs in the right household.
Sue Wagoner, Community Engagement Specialist
Sue had been volunteering for the shelter for 5 years before accepting a position as an Animal Caretaker in October of 2015. Before moving to Virginia, Sue volunteered at the Humane Society of Golden Valley in Minnesota and was involved in canine rehabilitation. Sue is your direct contact for both junior and adult volunteer programs and coordinates volunteer orientations. Part of her responsibilities are to train new volunteers and coordinate with them to help out at special events.
